One of the most memorable and enjoyable trips I have experienced was one of my first trips since the pandemic. I don’t know if it was the return to the “new normal” that felt amazing or just the ability to get out of the neighborhood and feel the freedom of travel! It’s was exhilierating.

To feel the crowds, to walk into restaurants and order, to dress up! The freedom of participating in life and travel again made this experience “super-sized”. To share with you again some of my detours delights my soul.

Recommended Detour:

It’s hard to choose but let’s start here…wander into an alley in China town and hit the trifecta. The street I returned to again and again is a crooked alley called “Doyers Street”. There I found the best of three diverse interests and imbibed in them all…dim sum, a funky bar with the best cocktails (and cocktails classes available should you want to make your own) and a good coffee (ok add an amazing reflexology shop as well. A hidden passion of mine).

Walk through Doyers Street and you will find all of these treasures close together. An easy walk for NY standard. Apotheke is at 9 Doyers (look up to see the sign for the chemist), Just next door is Nam Was with dim sum to die for and GF! Although this is not a long walk between, an amazing foot spa is located next door to that!

Interesting historical story is that Doyers was a spot where street wars broke out in the early 1900’s when the “gang’s of NY roamed the streets”. Because of the hard angle they would not see each other until face to face and that was when the street wars broke out. No worries now…time has changed things for the better.

The next best adventure I took was on the other side of town and allowed me to dress up! My favorite sushi restaurant Hatsuhana is open again near Lincoln center. The best thing to do after an amazing meal is to walk to the Monkey Bar, unfortunately it is temporarily closed and I am keeping an eye on that status. I took a Monkey Bar raincheck and hit broadway! Plays are back and Moulin Rouge was amazing.

Theaters are full again. Bring your vaccination card and mask. NYC has strict standards, but is opening it’s arms to visitors once again.
